Fall 2011 Trend Reports and Zoya Fall 2011 Collection

Everyday there is a new trend that is said to be the "it look" for fall.  Some are just "trends" , and others are to be taken more seriously. This upcoming Fall, two trends that I think are "OFF" ( Official For Fall) are the Feminine take on the Tuxedo ( with many colors and variations) , and the Mixing of textures and patterns ( think of a collage , but only with fabrics and colors in your wardrobe) .  When I was browsing through some of the Fall 2011 RTW Collections by Haider Ackerman, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, Jason Wu and Alexander McQueen ( all pictured below for your viewing pleasure )  - one thing came to my mind , the recently released  Zoya Nail Lacquer "Smoke and Mirrors" Fall 2011 Collection .  These nail colors are the perfect accessory to these trends. The collection includes 12 fabulous shades - 6 having a Smoky creme texture, while the other 6 have a metallic mirror-like sheen ; its the perfect balance.

Celebrity Minx Spotting : Beyoncés Dazed & Confused Cover

The latest Minx Celebrity spotting is from Dazed & Confused Magazine which features Beyoncé Knowles wearing Green Cheetah Minx on its July 2011 cover.  New York celebrity nail stylist Lisa Logan applied Minx to Beyoncé for the shoot.

Lisa revealed that the theme of the shoot was “high-end meets trailer park” in which sexy meets trashy, and said when the stylists saw the Green Cheetah design, “they thought it was genius.  They wanted to have fun with the shoot, and play off the bright colors Beyoncé would be wearing, and they were thrilled that they wouldn’t even have to change the Minx as it went with everything.”  Lisa herself said she was more than excited with the choice, adding “sometimes as a nail stylist you don’t want to play it safe, and want to use something that walks on the wild side.”
This nail design would look great with any outfit in my opinion, whether you're dressed down or up.  I'm not one to match my nails to my ensembles in the first place- so I would easily opt for this style.  Check out images from the Dazed & Confused Magazine Cover below

Summer Celebrity Hair Trends Made Easy by Way of UNITE Hair Care

This season, its all about three signature style made famous on the red carpets, runways, and the big screen : Tousled Beach Waves,  The (Sleek Polished)/ Playful Ponytail, and (my favorite) The Side Braid.  All of the styles mentioned work on ALL hair types, and VERY easy to re-create - making them the official the "go-to" styles for the rest of the summer. According to UNITE Hair Care Founder and Stylist, Andrew Dale, these looks have become increasingly popular because women are always looking for chic hairstyles that look natural and are easy to do.

Andrew was so generous as to give us instructions (a walk-through) as well as product suggestions to re-create these looks at home.  Read below :

Tousled Beach Waves
(as seen on Christina Milian and Beyonce)

7Seconds

Expanda Dust

Tricky Lite

“Starting on damp hair, spritz a detangler throughout strands from root to tip. Look for a detangling spray that will nourish and protect hair from UV rays and damage from heat-styling tools. Try, UNITE 7 Seconds ($26.25: unitehair.com) and allow hair to air-dry. Next, create volume and texture that will produce the ‘tousled’ and ‘undone’ look, by using a volumizing product that will not add weight to hair, try UNITE Expanda Dust ($26.25: unitehair.com). This translucent powder will dissipate into hair and thicken it, giving body all over. Using a 2 inch curling iron, take random sections and curl alternating from front to back, for a piece-y look. Finish off by using hands to separate the curls so they’re slightly undone, and spray with UNITE Tricky Lite ($31: unitehair.com) that will give hold and shine.”

Playful Ponytail
(As seen on Bar Refaeli , and Doutzen Kroes)

Go365 Spray

Boosta Spray

“I love turning up the volume on a basic look like the ponytail because it’s so simple but makes such an impact. To get the look, spray damp hair all over with UNITE’s Boosta Spray ($26.25: unitehair.com) that builds overall volume but without residue. Next, blow out hair using a round brush that will continue to build the volume. Once hair is dry, use hands to pull hair up into a ponytail (a brush will only flatten the volume you created), aligning it with the tip of your ears and securing with an elastic band. Smooth any flyaways with the UNITE Go365 Hairspray ($31: unitehair.com) that offers 3-in-1 levels of hold.”

Side Braid
(As seen on Rihanna)

Second Day

“This look is a great alternative to wearing hair up for those who have long hair. The braid needs some grip so it doesn’t slip out and come undone. To do this, simply use some of UNITE’s Second Day ($25: unitehair.com) to dry hair, which will give a ‘worn’ look while delivering hold for the braid. Next, using fingers, pull hair loosely to the side and separate into three sections. Braid off to the bottom and securing with an elastic band.”

**If you feel that maybe one or all of these styles are "out of your league" because you don't have a head full of long locks, remember - that it is only an "extension" or "ponytail piece" away from being attainable.**

Heat Wave - Approved Hair Tools

Since I live in NYC, and we've been experiencing a heat-wave with temperature levels through the roof. The beach has been the place of serenity for many of us, but with the combination of the sun, sand, saltwater and the excessive washing your hair more times than average.. Our hair , as well as hair color is at stake. Leave it to mega Beauty Story Rickys NYC to release these new items under signature line "RickyCare"  - which is sooooo on time!!!

One of the cardinal rules , since I can remember talking about my hair has been " You can NOT brush wet hair" , it is said to create breakage  , and has been strongly frowned upon.  Now... that rule is one of the past, with the new RickyCare WET Brushes ($7.99 each) .

These brushes are designed for wet use - shower, beach or poolside ( where we all have been lately) . There is a patented Slot System that locks bristles into the base eliminates the need for glue, which deteriorates over time as it gets wet - which also leads to missing bristles , and snagging of the hair . All of this is no longer an issue with this new system.

As for combs, RickyCare SUN Combs ($5.99) are a Godsend.  This line of combs sole purpose is to protect the color of your hair by preventing fading AND also preventing the ghastly dried out summer
hair texture (i.e. Fried hair). They also help protect hair from the sun’s harmful rays - sort of like "sunscreen combs".

It's so cool and innovative that these combs  ( which come in an variety of sizes) are infused with baked-in sunscreen that reflects harsh sunlight and harmful UV rays. A small amount of olive oil ( I ALSO LOVE the Olive Oil infused comb as well, but that's a story for a different day-) is baked into the plastic to keep hair shiny and frizz free. In this weather , frizz-free hair seems like a unattainable goal, yet with the right tools (i.e. RickyCare SUN Combs) we can actually attain it and more. It is advised to use these special combs prior to sun exposure - mornings , or before you get to the beach, pool, or rooftop soiree , and you can maintain healthy hair all summer.

All of these amazing products are available at www.RickysNYC.com and at all Ricky’s NYC store locations
