Spring is all about Boho Chic

What do you think of when Spring comes to mind?? Flowers!!! What does floral dresses say to you???? Bohemian Chic! With a huge cult following in Hollywood, the whole Bohemian style of dress has been a Spring staple for sometime now. Although floral prints also work well in fall and summer, it holds a special place dear to springs heart. Something about the not winter , but not yet summer weather that these floral print dresses work so well with. For colder spring days, dresses (like these pictured above) can be paired with suede fringed Minnetonka boots, or slouchy suede boots if you prefer. A nice layering with a denim jacket or knit long drape cardigan is also a nice touch. When the weather starts to heat up , loose the boots and incorporate flat gladiator sandals or a sandal with a leather weaved texture skip the denim jacket or cardigan and layer with a drape vest- which are another hot Spring item, or a suede vest - if you want to go Hardcore Boho - get one with long fringes. Hair more than anything - waves are standard , nothing too coiffed. Makeup of course should be bare and natural , Bohemians are not big on the glamour face. With these tips, you will successfully achieve Boho Chic for Spring!

Happy Vintage Swapping !!!

Being a huge fan of all things vintage ( I wear vintage jewelry about almost everyday!!). I love that there is now the opportunity for Vintage - Fashion lovers alike to join a ultra cool small community where swapping vintage clothes is the name of the game. Sounds like a Fashion Mavericks Heaven if you ask me!!! Some of the looks found on CovertCandy are if not identical , very similar to the trends we see in all of today's top Fashion magazines. Think about it, imagine being able to exchange 1970's floral frocks for 80's authentic acid wash high-waisted jeans (think Kelly Kapowski) , or if that's not your cup of tea- imagine exchanging your white 3" pumps for a purple blouse with exaggerated strong shoulders with rouging. Its great that you now have the opportunity to exchange something you don't really care for anymore for something equally as fabulous,it's a win-win situation. Most of the time when you give clothing to Goodwill , that is fabulous as well, but this is just another form of rewarding oneself. Some of my favorite vintage finds has got to be hands down - DENIM!!! There is something about a vintage pair of Jeans there isn't enough money in the world that can recreate that authenticity today. Especially vintage brands like Sergio Valente , Jordache ( although some of today's pairs have got me impressed) just to name a few. I'm also a big fan of jackets. There's nothing like a vintage cropped leather jacket , of course Accessories are another great idea to consider when shopping all things vintage. From jewelry, to sunglasses (my favorite is HUGE lenses a la Jacqueline Onasis) to handbags - Chanel Quilted Leather bag circa 79 anyone ???? If you can't afford Chanel , there is a plethora of other great handbag options to consider, or Chanel-inspired looks you can easily get online. Happy Vintage Swapping !!!! :)

Flirt With Ruffles This Spring

My Spring Prediction is one word RUFFLES!!! Ruffles are the epitome of being feminine, and they just add a softness to any item of clothing. From shirts to skirts to the perfect party dress, ruffles are definitely the way to go this spring. We have seen ruffles all over the runways for years, and translated into ready-to-wear options by tons of popular brands as well. A lot of women say they feel extra-flirty in ruffles , and I can totally relate to that feeling myself. When I think of ruffles, I always think of Paris and Romance for some reason. Maybe that is a play on that Flirty appeal ruffles tend to have on people. My favorite item of clothing with Ruffle accents are dresses. From solids, prints, silks, chiffon, laser cut trims, there is a look for every occasion. Shiny textiles are great for evening options as the lighter solid colors are perfect for day. Prints can work for either , and its also all about the accessories - you can always dress up or dress down a look with shoes and jewelery. Just make sure whatever it is you choose , it is opulent and girly to properly compliment the beautiful ruffles! This spring you will see ruffles everywhere !!!

How to Create Fishtail Braids a la Orlando Pita at Home

I've always been a fan of braids, since it was the way my hair was styled for most of my childhood. I just love the modern take on braids as performed by some of the top hairstylists of today. Orlando Pita created a very Romantic version recently, and it is simple enough to be recreated at home.

Detailed Breakdown of the process displayed above

  1. Spray hair generously with T3 + Orlando Pita Elevate Volumizing Spray

  2. Straighten hair with T3 SinglePass Straightening & Styling Iron

  3. Begin Fishtail braid on one side of the head

  4. Stay close to the head, pulling in pieces from the outside as you braid down the side

  5. Before securing with an elastic, push up on the braid to create a looser/messier look

  6. Braid until it is long enough to reach to the middle of the back of your head loosely or about 6” long.

  7. Begin second braid on opposite side of the head

  8. Pull braids together at the middle of the back of the head and tie with a piece of thread that matches hair color

  9. Cut the elastics out of the braids

The new T3 SinglePass Styling Iron , which was used to prep the hair for the braids.

Essie Spring 2010 Collection is an absolute favorite!!!! With hues named after artist and trends ( i.e. van d'go , pop art pink, tart deco - I LOVE that color on!) , this is a MUST-Have for spring! Essie always takes it up a notch with every season!!!! Waiting to see what Summer 2010 will have in store !

Chrome Nails

I just LOVE Dashing Diva Design Nails on the Go.... in Gold , Silver and Red Chrome ! They're a great alternative to the ultra popular MINX (which I also love) , and at the fraction of the cost, you can change your nails as much as you apply lipgloss!!!!! The difference is that these are actual press on nails, so you might feel a bit more security with these as were the MINX are just nail coverings applied to the nails.. Either way, these are a SPRING MUST Have !!!

Flawless Complexion

I love that Tarte Cosmetics added new shade extensions to Smooth Operator natural oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 , and Provocateur Powder natural mineral based press powder with SPF 8. Great for us darker skinned beauties!!! Now that it's officially Spring, the SPF factor is very very important !!!
